Aren't rats natural native animals? Or were they introduced?
introduced.
we do get native bush rats in Australia, but they dont invade your house
That's interesting. But where would you relocate them if they are not native?

you don't relocate.you eradicate. stupid humans brought all these foreign species over to Australia, we should just learn to live with them, that's if you don't want to kill them. I know its sad, but releasing rats into the wild could jeopardise the lives of native species that are struggling to survive. i know which species are worth saving.and its not the common introduced rat.

I understand what you're saying, but I think it's harsh to place higher value on one life over another. I, personally, would choose to free it rather than kill it - maybe not in the bush, but somewhere else perhaps?

i know, but im a conservationist, so i regard the native animals lives more important than that of the introduced. an option could be to somehow train the rats to be nice pet-like rats and rehome them? ?

It's so hard because as always righting a wrong (introducing the rats) is much harder than just not doing it at all.

I happened onto this thread while in search of humane traps for a couple of uninvited residents in my attic.

Apologies for my twisted perspective, but isn't it somewhat comically ironic that a person of clearly European descent is harping about the introduction of non-natives to Australia?

But as far as relocating rats is concerned, redistributing them in the wild does have a downside. Surely you know someone you don't like that could unknowingly provide an opportunity to re-home your guests.
