Okay, obviously you don't get my point and thats okay. It is possible to live 100 percent ethically and I know people who do.

Plants can not run away because they are in soil. Plants are affected by the way they are treated and if you undertand biodernamic farming you would understand this as well. If you have a garden and grow your on vegies or fruit, then you would also understand that if plants are not well looked after they die and loose their vitality. Treat plants well and they thrive and are able to reproduce. I am studying botany at the moment and am learning about the amazing structure of plants and how they are in fact affected by many different incorrect practices. If you harvest plants incorrectly, the whole plant dies. If you destroy their environment (soil), they die and if you over water them they die. They have to be harvested at a particular time of the day and and in a certain type of manner. They cannot run away if some idiot desides to drown them with too much water. Maybe you need to grow up and learn some facts about the plant and animal world or take a course in Botany.

Some facts about plants taken from studies "Plants feel pain when subjected to trauma such as being yanked out of the ground, peeled, cooked, and eaten. "Veggies and plants initiate a massive hormone and chemical barrage internally when they suffer any kind of injury," says professor Barry Lindzer. "This response is akin to the nerve response and endorphin release when an animal is injured. We cannot ignore the similarities."  Lets not forget that many plants are also endangered due to unethical practices and environmental damage.

Also there is a very important theory that animals evolved from the plant kingdom. If you need any more info on this I would be more than happy to pass it on.

Human rights, animals right and the rights of our planet are all relevent and connected because we all live together and the only way we can live in harmony is if we are all respected during our days of living. When you start to discrimination of  differnt groups then you can hardly call yourself ethical and you are not taking into consideration the needs of all living beings and that makes you selfish.
I don't agree with plants feeling pain, because the majority of scientest (basically all!) say that they don't feel pain. Even if they did, plants don't have emotions or a personality! And we have to eat something.

Also all lot of the people here, just use the word ethical as in being ethical to animals.

I'm curious as to what you eat, Ms Ethical?

Since animals and plants feel pain.

Eating either would result in being unethical.

'Grow up' and get off this page, your blocking up this topic with useless information. Troll.

In the end it doesn't really matter whether you believe plants feel pain or not, the conclusion is the same: in today's society you will be responsible for less pain and suffering if you do not eat animal products. This is because, it takes approx 10 times the number of plants to grow enough food to feed an animal that is then fed to a human, than if the human ate plants alone.

Thank you!

And besides which. Are we not also animals that need to eat? If we stop eating plants, what's left? Do we not owe our own lives the right to live as well?

This has just gotten silly. Lets agree to disagree.

Indigenous people havn't moved anywhere and many are left without nothing thanks to the USA and the West who have used up nearly all their natural resource. Have the indigenous people in Brazil cut down the rainforest??? Have they profited from this destruction. They do not even have the technology to do so. The animals are getting killed because their environment is gone. Number one reason animals are extinct is because they have no food and land. How can you be so ignorant and racist towards indigenous people. The USA are responsible for overusing natural resources all over the world and now a making up reasons to decalare war on people so they can take over their natural resource. Soon they will take all the beautiful, sacred land of the indigenous peoples. They cannot move on because they do not know how to survive in our crazy material and ignorant, unmeaningful and unspiritual society. They end up in slums because of displacement. People please wake up and see the truth.

I think in the end we all believe what we want to beleive. In saying this half the people here are only human activists and couln't care less about humanity and the environment. Ironic since the environment plays a vital role in the survival on most animal

Being vegans totally makes us ignorant racists..
I believe you are living in ignorance for thinking you can eat cruelty free meat. And as already stated, since it takes less fruit and veg to feed a person as it does to feed a cow to a person, it's the best it's going to get.

Get rid of farming animals for slaughter, and then there's plenty of room to farm vegetables without clearing land.

Okay if you do not value your species and truly beleive this then why do you exist? Remember there is a reason for existing. This is ridiculous. And hey, not all humans have a choice of what they can eat. Go to Colombia and see if you have a choice to pick and choose what you can eat. If half the people here knew what poverty was they would be thankful for any food that was in front of them.

If it takes too many plants to feed a cow, then if we do not eat these animals there will be no plants for us to eat because they will eat them all, because there will be too many. where is the logic in that??? Are you saying cows should not even exist????? There is a reason why the name food chain was created and we are part of that chain. Hey, our ancestors used to be hunted as well.
