As you've probably all heard, they've decided to continue jumps racing in Victoria (as of yesterday) even after all of the recent deaths of 4 horses. I have an animal rights group at school that my friend and I run together (we're in Year 12) and last week's issues were duck shooting and jumps racing so it really upsets me to hear that this decision has been made. Is there any hope for changing the future of this cruel sport? Does anyone have any suggestions as to how we can keep fighting to stop it? Let me know.
I can't believe it hasn't been banned yet, maybe it has something to do with Melbourne cup and wanting to keep races exciting until then? just a thought.
but no matter what the reason (if there is one) its just not right. Hope people wise up and ban it soon.
Hey yeah it is really disappointing that they haven't banned this yet and unfortunately it will mean that another horse is likely to die soon. When this happens, RVL and jumps racing will receive a vehement backlash from the community. Hopefully then it'll be banned.
In the mean time I recommend everyone keeps the issue alive. Keep writing to local papers and government, join the coalition at www.horseracingkills.com, and if you can, attend the demonstrations whenever they occur.
If the majority of the Victorian community has any decency jumps racing won't be around for long.
