I was just curious, who takes vitamins and which ones? As a vegetarian I didn't but as a vegan I'm taking a "mega" B supplement which includes b5 and b12 plus others. Which ones should I really be taking?
be careful if you are taking more than one type of vitamin as you could double or even triple up on vitamin B6 or 5... wich is really bad for you after just a short period of time and can severly affect your short term memory.
Most doctors and nutritionist will suggest taking a B12 supplement in some form and then monitoring your own body from there. Everyone is different. A lot of vegans find they just need a B12 vitamin or B12 fortified food and they can get all their other nutrients fine from food sources. But, just like omnivorous and vegetarians, other vegans need some extra help. If you notice any changes in how you feel I would suggest seeing a doctor or nutritionist (preferably vegan-knowledgeable/friendly). They may teach you some tricks with food to help (eg; to absorb iron better you should try and eat it with vitamin C, such as green salad with lemon juice on it) or they may suggest an extra supplement. I think many people (I know I did) go through a "detox" period when they first go vegan where they may feel a bit strange for a week or two while their body adjusts. Just listen to what your body needs, have a good relationship with your health care professionals, and you'll be fine!
I take B12 and Flaxseed capsules (only coz I don't like the oil!l). Both from the Cruelty Free Shop.
Might be a good idea to have a blood test. Check your Iron and B12 levels. When I was vegetarian I took Vitamin B tablets and was in the normal range. When I first became vegan I was still taking them and my iron levels were off the chart!!!! Not surprisingly, I ate poorly as a vegetarian.

Yeah, I've been putting off getting that blood test, I hate needles. Guess it's time to bite the bullet, heh
I take Floravital Liquid Iron, Grant's B Vit, Melrose Flaxseed oil capsules, Spirulina, Evening Primrose oil, Deva Hair & Nail & Inner Health Plus (dairy free)
I agree with getting regular blood tests if you think you might be deficient

wowaweewah! so healthy! i don't take one supplement.. i haven't in a year.. maybe i should lol
is it THAT bad if i don't? it's not like i feel sick lol
Matt, I'd recc having a blood test including B12, just to be sure.
If you eat a healthy vegan diet won't have a problem obtaining protein, calcium etc. But some non-obvious nutrients to look out for are B12, Omega and Iodine. Read up on B12. It can cause irreversible nerve damage.
