Please be aware that the above three products contain palm oil and/or palm oil derivatives (and no - not from a sustainable source).

I have decided to stop purchasing these products and am currently in the process of going through and e-mailing a lot of companies so I can get a list together of stuff I like that doesn't contain palm oil as it is very difficult when most of it's listed as vegetable oil.

Please let everyone know so they can make an informed decision when it comes to purchasing such products.

I know that woolworths sells dairy free spread, and from what I can tell from the ingredients list it seems perfectly fine. (:

umm apparently the only vegan margarine that doesn't contain palm oil is Melrose (available from health stores)

Correct!

I think you'll find that the dairy free spreads state they contain "vegetable oil" which in a lot of cases, is palm oil (legally they're allowed to list palm oil as vegetable oil).

I emailed the makers of Nuttelex a few months ago & got this email:

Thanks for taking the time to write to us. As a small Australian owned and operated family company we value feedback from our customers.  Sunflower is the main vegetable oil that we use at around 70% of the oil content. The remaining oils are palm olein and some canola. Our suppliers purchase this palm oil from well established plantations in Malaysia from a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (http://www.rspo.org/). This group has members from a wide range of organisations including environmental and social developmental NGOs such as OXFAM and the WWF.

We source our vegetable oils from Australia where possible depending on drought and other factors however, there is no Australian palm oil or viable equivalent. At Nuttelex we work hard to maintain the integrity of our product. For example, we stress very strongly to our suppliers the importance of vegan ingredients and non genetically modified vegetable oils. As a result we stopped using cottonseed oil around 6 years ago.

Hold on, can we just establish how you know they aren't from sustainable sources first? Nuttelex sounds alright to me, where did you hear otherwise?
