Hey happy
I have recently started at a new school and it is really, really great but today was my first class of food tech (didn't even know we did it  confused ) and I was really looking forward to it because since I became a vegan i gained so much knowledge about nutrition but when the class started i realised that it wasn't going to be as great as I thought. The first thing that threw me off a little was that on the work sheet we where given it listed the only sources if protein as meat, dairy, cheese, etc. then when we where answering questions as a class about the worksheet we where asked what the sources if protein where and I answered my very first question at that school (I an extremely quiet, only talk when asked questions) and I remember my exact words
"Animal derived products, nuts, beans and legumes" and the teacher mumbled something that sounded like "mainly meat and dairy" then completely ignored me for the rest of the class which is hard to do because I go to a very small school (18 ish regularly attending, 8 in my class today). The teacher later said that she could live of only food from the deli and be happy.
But the point of this post is because every Friday my grade has a practical lesson (thankfully we have this Friday off) and though all the other teachers know i am a vegan and fully support it i don't think this lady does and I'm worried that I will have to cook with animal products to pass the class because she seems like the kind of person who doesn't understand/care about veganism and I don't think she would spend time looking for vegan recipes just to please one student. As I mentioned before I am extremely quiet and hate making a fuss but I really want to pass this class and now I feel kind of silly complaining about it to all you guys but does anyone have any ideas on how I could participate in this class without any harm and not causing a massive fuss. I thought I could just print out a few recipes and bring them in but I'm kind of scared of my teacher so yeah any ideas?

Thanks guys

(Sort if this naked no sense it's midnight and I was up early)

Hmmmm, that kind of happened at my school. We had to cook meat burgers, Because we were in pairs my friend cooked it and I just did the toppings. A teacher from another class actually brought veggie burgers in. If you know what you are cooking, then try and bring in some vegan alternatives to what you are making (if you can). Is it possible to talk to the teacher? Just say that you are vegan and you know it is hard to compromise as you are the only one but you are happy to veganize the food you are making.

I did food tech and hospitality when I was at school happy all you have to do is inform the teacher that you are a vegan and that you don't feel comfortable handling and cooking animal products happy I told my teachers and they where absolutely fine with it and I passed every year tongue we also shared our meals and everyone always said that my vegan meals where the best out if the class tongue

Or you could always use the trusty line "It's against my religion". And they will back off pretty quick for fear of discrimination.

If your teacher is not willing to help you out then try and have a talk to the Head of Department of Food Tech. If that doesn't work, then you might have to consider talking to your Year Co-ordinator about moving to a different subject.

I remember the Food Science subject at my School was pretty old-school or outdated and similar to what you have described.
