I agree with Raven on finding the funny in being a vego tongue

When I tell people I'm vegan, and they have something to say, I always respond with that old t-shirt line... "Yeh, it's a Native American word meaning 'poor hunter.'"

They're shocked. They have this view that all vegans are some kind of militant breed of people who slam their views down others throats. I've met people like this, and really, they're not too interesting and not too many people wish to join there cause. However, I do acknowledge it can be really hard sympathising with some people...

I think if we change this perception and be welcoming (like everyone so far on
this site  happy ), we will attract a lot more people to our cause and save some more animals!

I found this site recently about vegan bodybuilding and fitness, and I've decided to try the training to prove to everyone exactly how healthy being vegan is and how fit I can get!
I've got a lot of motivation from your comments. thank you so much.

I'm sooo glad vegan foods are so delicious too. Makes it easier.

I think showing people can sometimes work alot better than telling them. I could run off the foods which had protein, iron etc till the cows came home, but it wasn't until I could actually show people how much energy I had and how healthy I was that they could see where their diets lacked and mine flourished. They are the ones complaining how tired they are at uni every day, while I feel fine!
Yup, some ppl do not want to hear, no matter what you say!

It's a shame that your friends treat you like this, do you have other more tolerant ppl you can hang out with instead? If not, then I guess you have to decide if they are still ppl you want to be around. Perhaps you could say " This is my decision and I am really happy with it. I am not going on about sick you probably are, so please don't say the same about me".

Other then that you could try meeting vegans online and make some new friends!

It is hard, especially when the majority of people prefer to stick their heads in the sand. I took some of the Animals Australia brochures to school to show my friends, and after reading them they pushed them away and said that they didn't want to see pictures and things like that, because it was horrible. A lot of people don't want to know about stuff like that, because they don't like seeing it. They prefer to ignore it rather than face a horrible reality.

Just keep on truckin', whenever people make nasty or ignorant comments, just remind yourself that no matter what other people say, you know you're right. Hopefully, one day your friends will see that.

You'll be pleased to hear a lot of us feel that way! But you'll soon realise that over time they will realise it's not a "fad" or "stage" your going through and they are probably a little jealous that you have discipline and are a lot leaner than their big mac arses lol

I also sent emails to my friends with pictures and information on how they kill animals and animal testing with a message "ignorance is not bliss for me, I choose to not ignore but take a stand and make a difference in the world"

Also it helps to find a few friends who do understand what your going through
Oh an arm yourself with facts on diseases caused by poor living conditions are passed onto humans and what sausages are really made of, take your own food to BBQ and make everyone try it!

Good luck & stay strong!  clap
