NEW YORK: BAN WILDLIFE KILLING CONTESTS

BY: Alicia Graef
TARGET: New York Legislature, Environmental Conservation Committee
About this Petition
Animal advocates and lawmakers in New York are working to make sure barbaric wildlife killing contests like Palenville's Crow Down and Holley's Squirrel Slam never take place again.

Opponents continue to raise concerns over the cruelty inherent in these contests and the dangerous, indifferent, attitudes they promote towards wildlife – especially when it comes to what they teach children about the species we share our landscapes with.

Species who are considered pests are often targeted in these contests, but the so-called hunters who continue to support them are completely ignoring not just the role their targets play in the environment, but their inherent value.

It's been long known that crows are highly intelligent and social animals who form lifelong pair bonds and live in tight-knit family groups that stay together for years, while squirrels perform a variety of tasks that help forests in their daily lives.

While there might not be anything that can legally be done to stop the upcoming Crow Down, there is hope that contests in New York, will become a thing of the past.

Animal advocates and lawmakers are supporting legislation that will make it illegal for “any person to organize, conduct, promote or participate in any contest or competition where the objective of such contest or competition is to take the greatest number of wildlife.”

Please sign the petition urging New York lawmakers to support and co-sponsor this vital piece of legislation for wildlife.

WE WANT THE IMMEDIATE FIRING OF DEBI SHUKER OF SAN BERNADINO CITY SHELTER IN CALIFORNIA FOR THE ABUS

BY: victoria Ansaldo
TARGET: Mayor, Governor, District Attorney Senator of Ca , Directors of that division in California.
About this Petition
We want the immediate firing of Debi Shuker of San Bernadino City Shelter in Ca. She has shown numerous , blatant disregard for the animals in her care. No vet care and retaliatory killing of 11 innocent  animals yesterday when everyone contacted the Mayor in regards to a sick dog that languished for days without vet care when she promised a vet would see the dog... Another little dog Inky Bink is dead thanks to her.. Little Chi sat with bones exposed for 10 days without medical care and now has died . Yesterday Debi did a mass killing of 11 innocent dogs in retaliation for us calling the Mayor over Sue a very  sick dog...
Maria Sanchez was cradling  Sue in her arms and  asked Debi about her promising that this dog would see the vet Debi immediately called the cops and had them escort Maria out..  Another volunteer was taking pictures of the animals to be networked and was accused of giving them dog biscuits and Debi called the police on her... This shelter has numerous complaints against them for neglect, abuse  and killing animals before their due date. Some animals are given one day only  . This shelter does not even adhere to Hayden's law...There is even a lawsuit pending against them and yet the directors and everyone involved turns a blind eye!!!.. Well San Bernadino California the world is watching and we are not happy at all what you are doing in this shelter!!!

Sign petition this will not only get the perpitrator fired but also stand as ecnologment that this treatment is not condoned by humanity: https://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/643/335/215/

Dogs killed for dinner plates...

STOP THE YULIN DOG SLAUGHTER

BY: Patricia Losch
TARGET: The Mayor of Yulin
About this Petition
I have a Border Collie, Colin and he turns seven today. He is loved and a family member. I make this petition for him as a birthday gift. I want to think of all the dogs who have not that luck to live in a family who love them and treat them well. There are still many countries where dogs are being tortured and cruely killed. In Yulin/China, on the 21 of Juin this year again thousands of dogs will be slaughtered to end up on Chinese plates. Du Yufeng, founder of the Guangyuan Boai Animal center, has been fighting for years to stop this massacre and save dogs. Please sign this petition and protest with me against this ritual and support Du Yufeng's devotion to save dogs. Please don't look away. Together we can make a change.

CHINA: PUNISH BUYERS OF POACHED TIGER BODY PARTS

BY: Lauren S
TARGET: Ministry of Environmental Protection of the People's Republic of China
About this Petition
In Zhanjiang, a city in China's Guangdong province, prominent business people and local officials have found a grotesque form of entertainment: watching tigers be electrocuted alive. These so-called "visual feasts" were followed by the tigers being butchered and fed to the attendees. Then the body parts were given as expensive gifts or sold on the black market.

The English-language website of the China News Service has reported 15 suspects have been arrested in a raid. One of the butchers responsible for the slaughter of at least 10 tigers jumped to his own death trying to evade arrest. The tiger trade is technically banned in China, and anyone convicted of poaching faces the death penalty.

Tiger bones and genitals are believed to contain medicinal properties in China, and tiger body parts and meat can sell for the equivalent of thousands of dollars per kilo. This black market industry is a major contributing factor to declining tiger populations worldwide. While the perpetrators of the butchery in Zhanjiang will be prosecuted, so too should anyone implicated in the participation of these grotesque displays, purchasers of these tiger products, and those who accept them as gifts.

Sign this petition to demand that China crack down on people who buy tiger products

DON'T LET CLIMATE CHANGE ENDANGER THE PYGMY RABBIT

BY: Environmental Defense Fund
TARGET: Environmental Protection Agency
About this Petition
Pygmy rabbits are as adorable as they are diminutive - they weigh less than one pound! But their small size doesn't help them as their habitat shrinks.

Warmer temperatures as well as more intense and frequent wildfires are reducing their sagebrush habitat and may drive this species to higher elevations. At the same time, lower levels of snowfall and a reduced snowpack threaten their strategy for escaping dangerous predators -- by burrowing through the snow -- and leaves them exposed, without cover.

In order to save this runt-like rabbit, we need to combat climate change immediately.

The EPA has proposed a landmark standard for climate pollution from new power plants. This standard will help end dirty energy as we know it and keep animals like the pygmy rabbit safe from climate change.

We know that industry leaders and their friends in Congress will be attacking it at any moment -- and we need our voices to rise up louder than theirs. Tell the EPA you support its proposal to help curb climate pollution and save the pygmy rabbits' habitat!

PROTECT PENGUINS FROM THE EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE

BY: Environmental Defense Fund
TARGET: Environmental Protection Agency
About this Petition
Penguins from Antarctica to Africa are suffering as a result of climate change.

Changing temperatures affect everything from the birds' habitats to their food supply. In their habitat of far north Antarctica, extremely warm air temperatures are causing the sea ice that Adélie penguins rely upon to melt, forcing them to move farther South.

African penguins live on rocky islands offshore of the South-western coast of Africa, and they are currently endangered. Their biggest threats are all man-made: oil pollution, habitat degradation and food availability issues that are all likely a result of climate change.

Emperor penguins are the largest (and probably best known) penguins alive today, and the only penguin species that breeds during the harsh Antarctic winter. Climate change is melting the sea ice which many colonies of emperor penguins rely on for breeding, threatening future populations.

The EPA has proposed a landmark standard for climate pollution from new power plants. This standard will help end dirty energy as we know it and keep penguins safe from the effects of climate change.

Tell the EPA you support its proposal to help curb pollution and protect penguins http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/660/830/641/

SAVE THE AMERICAN PIKA

BY: Environmental Defense Fund
TARGET: Environmental Protection Agency
About this Petition
An endearing fur ball, the American Pika is well-known to hikers who hear these hamster-sized mammals whistling from rock piles and talus slopes in Canada and the western Rocky Mountains. Their presence may someday be a memory, as climate change threatens their limited habitat.

Pikas are extremely sensitive to heat -- even brief exposures (as little as a few hours) to temperatures above 78 degrees Fahrenheit can be fatal. They also rely on snowpack for insulation in the winter. In the southern portions of its range, some populations already occupy the highest altitudes, with no place to move upward to escape the warming climate.

The EPA has proposed a landmark standard for climate pollution from new power plants. This standard will help end dirty energy as we know it and keep animals like the pika safe from the effects of climate change.

We know that industry leaders and their friends in Congress will be attacking it at any moment -- and we need our voices to rise up louder than theirs. Tell the EPA you support its proposal to help curb climate pollution and save animals like the pika!

AIR FRANCE: STOP SHIPPING PRIMATES TO LABORATORIES

BY: SUE LEE
TARGET: Air France Airlines
About this Petition
Please sign and share worldwide in an effort to stop Air France Airlines from shipping all primates to laboratories. This is the only airline and the largest trafficker that transports frightened, terrified monkeys with a fate of imprisonment and torture. Other major airlines have stopped doing so, including Air China has stopped doing so and we have to demand Air France to follow suit and protect the monkeys from the barbaric labs and testing.

So many monkeys are snatched right from their families within the wild and placed in cold, tiny wooden cages to sit on a plane that is headed to a laboratory. These poor babies are terrified in the dark, cargo space of these flights. However, most flights have refused to take these animals to laboratories for testing and worse, where they may enduremutilation, poisoning, food deprivation, infection with painful diseases and psychological torment.

Although other airlines have stopped transporting these monkeys for testing and literally banned such actions, Air France is continuing to do so. A spokesperson for PETA has said “Prior to this announcement, China Southern was the only major airline other than Air France that still shipped primates to laboratories. China Southern shipped monkeys to laboratories in the EU and US, where they were poisoned, crippled and mutilated in cruel experiments. Our campaigns (against the airline’s policies) included regular protests at airports and company offices in Chicago, London, Los Angeles, Taiwan and Tokyo, and through PETA affiliate websites, more than 100,000 people sent e-mails to China Southern urging it to stop shipping primates.”

We have to encourage Air France Airlines to stop the transport of primates like these darling little monkeys and ensure them the relief for the countless monkeys who would otherwise have continued to be handed “a one-way ticket to experimentation and death.” Please sign and share worldwide in an effort to stop Air France Airlines from shipping all primates to laboratories.

TELL THE EPA: ENACT STRONG SAFEGUARDS AGAINST TOXIC COAL ASH

BY: Sierra Club
TARGET: EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy
About this Petition
Since last September, Duke Energy illegally spilled and dumped over 61 million gallons of toxic coal ash into North Carolina's waterways. Ash from coal-burning power plants is full of toxic heavy metals like arsenic, mercury, and lead -- that the coal companies then dump in pits and ponds with no plan for safe disposal or cleanup.

Thankfully there's now a federal investigation into the leaks and illegal dumping, but there are still no federal safeguards to protect our communities from coal ash or other water pollution caused by burning coal -- even though there are more than 1,100 coal ash sites like the ones in North Carolina.

Tell the EPA we have waited long enough and that it's time to finalize new coal ash protections.
