New Zealand....Dogs: loose, attacking, rushing, straying, annoying, starving, unregistered, uncared for, dumped or unwanted. Are thus treated ALL OVER THE WESTERN world! What's your alternative?  Let the dogs roam free, pack forming + creating havoc?! Problem caused by delinquent dog owners: they don't care about their dogs or neighbours. So, reaction by law enforcement folk results. Welcome to the real, problem solving world!
When did we say to let them roam free? So your cure for this is to kill them? that isn't addressing the big picture... that seems like another failed justification for hunting... however I agree with you that simply removing the show wouldn't, on its own, have a larger impact to prevent wild dogs from suffering, though it would have an impact, need I remind you that by advocating against this, this is the only way to show we do not want these shows or the actions themselves to occur... thus no watchers means no shows like this, means no killing. Now on the topic of PREVENTION we also advocate that pet shops be careful in whom they allow to purchase dogs including many of us have asked for background checks for animal abuse (not to mention we also advocate against the purchasing due to the fact that a living being is not property in our eyes, thus we advocate on adoption) and we also advocate that places that are highly known for 'quick sales' to negligent owners via gumtree and craigslist ect be banned from this due to the statistics showing that if purchasing or adopting a dog is quick and takes less though the person is more likely to, in the long run, be an ill care giver.... for if a person is willing to go through the procedure to get an animal they are more likely to legitimately care for the animal.

Why petition to have it removed? This show educates us about the reality of delinquent dog owners +their couldn't careless attitudes! Should be promoted to actuate proper dog ownership responsibility and management!
We don't need to repeatedly watch dogs being killed to know that delinquent dog owners are the cause, I think you may be, like many before you, just using this as an excuse to watch these horrid shows. Also once again removal of shows like this is part of the prevention because if people aren't watching it, it isn't giving demand for these shows and isn't paying people to do this... but that is only half of the fight the other half is to stop 'quick sales' and promote background checks and harsher penalties for delinquent carers.

I can see this thread got a bit off topic. I've cleaned up all posts unrelated to the original topic. If anyone wishes to continue a discussion about hunting or speciesism, please create a new thread. AND please keep in mind that argumentative posts and name calling may be removed.

People with all sorts of opinions contribute to the Unleashed forum. And while you may not agree with someone, I've generally found that calling someone names or making accusations is rarely the best way to win them over to your way of thinking. In fact it usually breaks down constructive conversation and creates arguments. In my experience the most important first step to effective advocacy is to find common ground with others. If you can find point of agreement, then that's the perfect place to start from to help show someone a new way of looking at a situation.
