If you braved the sweltering heat of the Big Day Out this summer, then we hope you made it worth your while and caught a glimpse of Serj Tankian. The System of a Down frontman has certainly got the skills!
Aside from an amazing voice, Serj is also a masterful songwriter and for his most recent solo album ‘Elect the Dead’, he wrote, recorded and played almost all instruments himself!
Off stage, Serj keeps himself equally busy with activism. Working with Tom Morello (the guitarist from Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave), Serj has co-founded Axis of Justice—a not-for-profit that unites musicians, music fans and grass roots political groups to fight for social change. We are most definitely a fan of anyone who speaks up for human rights, opposes factory farming and protects the environment, which is why we were stoked when Serj offered to meet with us at his headlining side show in Melbourne.
Check out what he had to say about animal cruelty, the interconnectivity of all things on the planet and ... a government run by sheep.
Like Serj says, cruelty sucks—whether it’s to humans or animals. And like Serj, you can take a stand against cruelty and help the millions of animals who are trapped in factory farms in this country. Simply join the Unleashed Action Team, and start saving lives today!
